Aim and Scope
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) accomplish complicated tasks such as target tracking, environment surveillance and many other potential tasks. But, energy is the most critical factor in sensor networks. Its power requirement is satisfied by low capacity and low power battery. Sensor networks are extremely energy-limited due to the requirement of its unattended operation in remote or even potentially hostile locations. This constraint demands that techniques must not only be efficient but energy conscious as well, which requires new approach to addressing the common but substantial issues.
Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) are a new and emerging type of sensor network for acquiring and transmitting multimedia data such as images, audio and video streams and scalar data. Besides, WMSN are able to store, process in real-time, correlate, and fuse multimedia data originated from heterogeneous sources. The energy depletion is more serious in case of WMSN as it process and transfers voluminous amount of multimedia data than WSN. This demands to strive for efficient techniques from application down to other layers of the network.
The aim of this special session is to provide an opportunity for scientific researchers to contribute and to discuss on the critical issues of energy depletion in WSN and WMSNs.
The topics of interest include but are not limited to:
• Energy-efficient communication protocols
• Security protocols
• Quality of Service support
• Multimedia secure data aggregation and intelligent data processing
• Efficient Middleware Design and Implementation
• Application of intelligent systems to improve energy
• Novel applications : Healthcare, Home Automation, traffic monitoring, etc
